Nielsen, E.S., Edwards, E.D. & Rangsi, T.V. (eds) 1996. Checklist of the Lepidoptera of Australia. Monographs on Australian Lepidoptera. Collingwood : CSIRO Publishing Vol. 4 xiv 529 pp. & CD-ROM. [191] (Note #275. Nacoleia Walker, 1859. Hampson (1918) incorrectly synonymized Nacoleia Walker with Lamprosema Hübner, 1823, and over the years Lamprosema Hübner has not only been widely used as the valid generic name but also as a repository for the synonymy of a vast number of similar, though probably unrelated genera. Lamprosema and its supposed synonyms have not been revised since Hampson and it is currently regarded as a 'dust bin' genus. The type species of Lamprosenza Hübner, Lamprosema lunulalis Hübner, 1823, described from Surinam, appears to be part of a well defined New World species group; the relationship between this group and Old World species presently placed in Lamprosema is unresolved. Munroe (1983) gave no synonymy for Lamprosema, though the BMNH Card Index lists 16 genera under synonymy, including Nacoleia. However, for many years Nacoleia has been used as a valid generic name (eg., Turner 1913b; Meyrick 1933, 1934a; Zimmerman 1958; Inoue 1982). [In the Checklist] Nacoleia [was] treated as a valid generic name with the Old World genera previously placed in synonymy of Lamprosema listed as synonyms)
