Emu 70: 198 who identified it with Psittaculirostris desmarestii (Desmarest, 1826); although most revisers through the middle of the 20th century accepted Mathews's rejection of Cyclopsitta Reichenbach, 1850 in favour of Opopsitta Sclater, 1860, the former name has now come back into frequent use in the Australian literature and is the name employed in the principal modern references for New Guinea where the genus is centred, see Forshaw, J.M. 1981.
