Family NEOTHROMBIIDAE Feider, 1959

Introduction

The Neothrombiidae is a small but widespread family of 15 described species in 11 genera (Walter et al. 2009). The deutonymphs and adults are predators that are found in soil and litter, and the larvae are parasites of arthropods, mostly orthopteroid insects. The most recent revision of the family was by Zhang (1994), and a few more genera and species have been described since then. Saboori (2002) provided a key to the larvae of eight of the genera. Most genera are known only from the larva, so some changes to the classification can be expected when the adults of those species are discovered. Only two species have been described from Australia, and both are known only from the parasitic larva, one species on grasshoppers (Southcott 1986) and the other on a centipede (Southcott 1987).
