Extra Distribution Information

66 species are known, 29 of these occur in Australia.

Note that conversion of the original AFD map of states, drainage basins and coastal and oceanic zones to IBRA and IMCRA regions may have produced errors. The new maps will be reviewed and corrected as updates occur. The maps may not indicate the entire distribution. See further details below.

Diagnosis

Maxillary palpi twice as long as head, second and fourth segments of maxillary palpi lengthily pedunculate, fourth segments with notch of sensory areas sharply defined; rostral apex slightly emarginate. Pronotum with antebasal sulcus shallow but usually distinct, median antebasal fovea indistinct or lacking, lateral antebasal foveae distinct.

The nominate subgenus is characterized by a distinct antebasal sulcus and lack of basal microreticulation on the pronotum, while the subgenus Neopselaphaulax Jeannel (1951: 9) from Vietnam is characterized by the reticulate pronotal base posterior to the weak antebasal sulcus. The features used to separate the two subgenera intergrade in the Australian species, and no coherent groups can be formed. All species are placed in the nominate subgenus here.
