Family MOCHLOZETIDAE Grandjean, 1960

Introduction

The family Mochlozetidae includes ten genera and 63 species world-wide (Schatz et al. 2011). The family is tropical and subtropical in distribution, but reaches its highest level of diversity in the Neotropical Region (data from Subias 2011). Most species appear to feed on fungi, but at least one species has been reported to feed on plant material (Norton & Behan-Pelletier 2009). Hunt et al. (1998) reported two unidentified species of Mochlozetidae collected from tree trunks in Queensland, but they cannot be placed in a known genus (Colloff & Halliday 1998).
