Extra Distribution Information

Circum-(sub)tropical distribution. Sun et al. (2015) examined materials collected from ship hulls from Western Australia, New South Wales and Tasmania

Introduced from tropical American seas.

Ecological Descriptors

Estuary, intertidal, sublittoral.

Extra Ecological Information

Fairly common in lagoonal habitats in the Caribbean (ten Hove, pers. comm.), but almost all other records known are from harbours and ships' hulls which may be an indication that the species originates from the tropical American seas, and its distribution otherwise is caused by fouling in ships.
