Family GASTRONYSSIDAE Fain, 1956

Introduction

The Gastronyssidae is a family of nine genera and 42 species of endoparasitic mites that occur in mammals, mostly bats. They are found in the nasal passages, eyes, and stomach of their hosts (OConnor 2009). The world fauna was reviewed by Bochkov (2010) and Bochkov et al. (2008), and the Australian fauna of two genera and three species, all from bats, was catalogued and keyed by Domrow (1992).
