Family ERIORHYNCHIDAE Qin & Halliday, 1997
Introduction
The family Eriorhynchidae Qin & Halliday was established to accommodate five endemic Australian species. Some of these species may have previously been confused with crop pests in the related family Penthaleidae, which they superficially resemble. However, all the species of Eriorhynchidae are found only in native vegetation, and they appear to have no economic significance. The morphology of the gnathosoma of Eriorhynchidae, and the taxonomic similarity of this family with Penthaleidae and Penthalodidae, suggests that they are plant feeders, but this has not been confirmed by direct observation (Qin & Halliday 1997).
