Family CYTHERIDEIDAE Sars, 1925

Diagnosis

Valves strongly calcified and firm. Anterior margin broader than posterior. Sculpture different. Fused zone broad. Inner margin and line of concrescence mostly coincide, but sometimes small vestibule may be present. Marginal pore canals densely situated, being simple or branched, but always straight. Normal pore canals of sieve type. Antennula strong and 5-segmented. Antenna with two or more terminal claws. Mandibular palp 3-segmented. Maxillula normal. Walking legs on right body side transformed in males.
