Diagnosis
The two genera of Lophopidae found in Australia are very different from each other. Magia Distant includes two species with elongate clear wings bearing a dark "eyespot" near the apex and both species are greater than 1cm in length. The only Australian species of Lophops is less than 1 cm in length, has brown wings with oblique dark brown striping and is generally arcuate in outline when viewed from the side. The key provided by Soulier-Perkins (1998) separates these two genera at the first couplet with the apical spines of the first tarsal segment grouped together to form a triangular patch in Magia but with the apical spines of the first tarsal segment of Lophops separated by a pag of microsetae.
