Family CYLISTICIDAE Verhoeff, 1949

Introduction

The Cylisticidae are Palaearctic isopods represented in Australia by an introduced species.

 

Diagnosis

Dorsal surface of body strongly convex; animal can conglobate imperfectly. Antenna 2 remains exposed during conglobation; without endolobes on pereon. Body outline not interrupted between pereon and pleon. Antenna 2 flagellum with 2 articles. Pleopodal lungs present in exopods of pleopods 1–5. Telson subtriangular with sides indented and apex acute. Uropod with exopod long and narrow, projecting backwards well beyond telson.
