Larva: aquatic.

Extra Ecological Information

Adult a vicious biter and readily attacks humans, dogs, cats, horses, sheep, kangaroos, rabbits and fowl; significant pest in irrigation areas and after floods in rural riverine areas; potential vector of Murray Valley encephalitis virus; temporary and local vector of myxomatosis in New South Wales and Queensland; larva found in temporary ground pools filled by rain, floods or irrigation with emergent grass.
