Type data:
Holotype whereabouts unknown (type not specified, presumed to be BMNH 1947.3.5.86, that specimen on which Shaw based a subsequent description of this species, see Shaw, G. 1802. General Zoology, or Systematic Natural History. Vol. 3 Pt. 1. Amphibia. London : Kearsley 312 pp.), unspecified locality. - Chelodina novaehollandiae Duméril, A.M.C. & Bibron, G. 1835. Erpétologie Générale ou Histoire Naturelle Complète des Reptiles. Paris : Roret Vol. 2 680 pp. [443] [long regarded as a replacement name for Testudo longicollis Shaw, 1802; however Roux-Estève, R. 1979. Liste des Amphibiens et Reptiles des collections du Muséum National d'Histoire Naturelle de Paris, récoltés par Lesueur (1778–1846). Bull. Trim. Soc. Géol. Normandie et Amis Muséum du Havre 66: 25–29 regards this as a distinct species with its own holotype, and so it has been treated as such here].
Type data:
Holotype MNHP 6969, Australia. - Chelodina sulcifera Gray, J.E. 1855. Catalogue of Shield Reptiles in the Collection of the British Museum. Part I. Testudinata (Tortoises). London : British Museum 79 pp., XLII pls. [59, pl. XXV fig. 2].
Type data:
Holotype BMNH 1947.3.5.87, Australia. - Chelodina sulcata Gray, J.E. 1856. On some new species of freshwater tortoises from North America, Ceylon and Australia, in the collection of the British Museum. Proceedings of the Zoological Society of London 1855: 197-202 [1855 on title page but p. 201 issued 5 February, 1856] [201] [error, or unnecessary replacement name, for Chelodina sulcifera Gray, 1855].
