Introduction
The Apochela have both oral (peribuccal) and cephalic papillae which may not be homologous to the cephalic papillae of heterotardigrades (Dewel et al. 1993) but which have led some authors (Kristensen 1981) to question the position of Milnesium in the Eutardigrada. Although there are diploclaws on all legs, the main branch is always clearly separate from the secondary branch. Furthermore, the secondary branch is very similar to a single claw of Anisonyches species (Arthrotardigrada). True placoids are absent.
