Order ANTHOATHECATA Cornelius, 1992
Introduction
The Hydrozoan order Anthoathecata is comprised of two suborders Filifera and Capitata. Bouillon et al (2006) describe approximately 1,140 valid species, and define this suborder taxonomically based on a lack of statocysts (a sensory/balance organ) on medusae and gametogenic tissue is confined to the manubrium.
