Family ALLOPTIDAE Gaud, 1957
Introduction
The family Alloptidae includes 23 genera of mites that are found in the feathers of sea birds (Gaud & Atyeo 1996; OConnor 2009). Only four named species in three genera have been recognised in Australia, and a fourth genus is represented by an undescribed species. Many more species will be found when the feather mite fauna of Australian birds is surveyed more extensively.
