Introduction

A small subfamily, characterised by a very high, almost spherical, head with a prominent oral disc and a long stylet without basal swellings.

All known species are associated with desert plants from sandy soils (Allen 1940; Hooper & Cooke 1967; Sauer 1970; Nickle 1971). Attempts to culture anomycetines on fungi and other nematodes have failed (Hooper & Cooke 1967).

Duration of life cycle is unknown. Only 1 male individual is known, and attempts at culture have failed, so it is uncertain whether reproduction is amphimictic or parthenogenetic.

No members of the subfamily are of known economic importance.
