Notes

Emerson (1952a: 299; 1962: 467) pointed out that Cotton & Godfrey (1933) had misidentified specimens of Dentalium bednalli Pilsbry & Sharp, 1897 as representing the type species, Dentalium intercalatum Gould, 1859.
However, Verco (1904: 135) had synonymized these two species. Subsequently, Paradentalium was used as a valid genus by Palmer (1974: 118) with the type species as Dentalium bednalli, and by Scarabino (1995: 194, 216) who listed the type species as Dentalium intercalatum.
Most recently, Lamprell & Healy (1998: 59, 61) confirmed the synonymy of Verco (1904), thereby rejecting the conclusions of Emerson and Palmer. (Steiner & Kabat, 2001)
