Family TENTACULARIIDAE Poche, 1926

Introduction

The Tentaculariidae are characterised by the presence of four bothridia and an homeoacanthous tentacular armature (Campbell & Beveridge 1994). Both Nybelinia and Tentacularia are cosmopolitan in their distribution (Dollfus 1942) and these and four other genera occur in Australia (Beveridge & Campbell 1996), represented by 22 species. As with most families of the order, adult cestodes occur in the intestinal tract of elasmobranchs while the larval stages, in this case, post-larvae, are found in the body cavities of teleosts.
