Genus Mysia Wood, 1840

Compiler and date details

2011 - Philippe Bouchet & Jean-Pierre Rocroi, generic information

December 2010 - Peter U. Middelfart, Winston F. Ponder & Des Beechey, Australian Museum, Sydney, NSW, Australia

  • Mysia Wood, 1840 [Bouchet lists the valid name 'Lamarck [ex Leach MS] 1818 Histoire naturelle des animaux sans vertèbres, 5: 543; Introduced in synonymy, but treated as valid before 1960. "Mysia T. Brown, 1827" [Illustrations of the conchology of Great Britain and Ireland: pl. 16] and "Mysia Wood, 1840" [The Annals and Magazine of Natural History, 6: 250] are listed by Sherborn and Neave as separate names. In the index (p. ii), Brown attributed Mysia to Leach, and Wood also refered to Leach, so it is clear that both Lamarck, Brown and Wood used the same name, although with different taxonomic extensions; Tellina rotundata Montagu [Ungulinidae] was the only species included in Mysia by Brown, and Wood included Mysia ornata Wood, 1840 and Venus undata].
    Type species:
Venus undata Pennant, 1777 by monotypy.
