Species Composetia costae (Grube, 1840)

Introduction

Given the type location of this species is in the Mediterranean, Villalobos-Guerrero et al. (2021) suggested that records of Composetia costae (Grube, 1840) from Australia may represent an undescribed species, and noted several significant differences between Australian specimens and the type specimens. They also recognised Nereis (Ceratonereis) lapinigensis Grube, 1878 from the Philippines as a valid species of Neanthes and removed it from the synonymy of C. costae.
