Subfamily Phacopteroninae Heslop-Harrison, 1958

Introduction

As presently described, this is a very small family of 22 species in three genera but many species await description. The family has a pan-tropical distribution with hostplants mainly in the Rutales (Anacardiaceae, Burseraceae, Meliaceae and Sapindaceae) but also in the Apocynaceae. Several species are gall-inducers and one, Cornegenapsylla sinica, develops on Longan in China and the Far East.

A single non-endemic genus, Pseudophacopteron, with several unidentified species is recorded from Australia.

There is no comprehensive publication on the family but the Central Americal species were covered by Brown & Hodkinson (1988).
