Species Cheilonereis peristomialis Benham, 1916

Introduction

Benham (1916) described Cheilonereis peristomialis primarily on a specimen from the Great Australian Bight, although he did also provide a description of a specimen from New Zealand. Importantly, he did not designate a holotype, despite the extensive description of the Australian specimen, and as such, both Australian and New Zealand specimens can only be considered syntypes. Re-collection of the Australian specimen, should that be possible, is highly desirable. - following The World Register of Marine Species

Commensal.

Extra Ecological Information

Found commensal in the topmost whorl of a shell occupied by a hermit crab Pagurus edwardsii (reported as Eupagurus edwardsii). See Young (1923).
