Praetaxila segecia segecia (Hewitson, 1861)

Sospita segecia Hewitson, W. C. 1861. Illustrations of New Species of Exotic Butterflies, Selected chiefly from the collections of W. Wilson Saunders and William C. Hewitson. London : Van Voorst Vol. 2 [[92] pl. 46].
Type data: lectotype BMNH *; Hewitson in the original description did not indicate the number of specimens described but he figured both sexes; Kirby, W.F. 1879. Catalogue of the Collection of Diurnal Lepidoptera Formed by the Late William Chapman Hewitson, of Oatlands, Walton-on-Thames; and Bequeathed by Him to the British Museum. London : John van Voorst iv 246 pp. [183] (listed four specimens in the Hewitson collection); Toxopeus, L.J. 1944. Results of the Archbold Expedition to New Guinea, Lepidoptera Riodinidae (Erycinidae). Treubia Hors Série: 156–193 [181] (mentioned types but not a single type).
Subsequent designation: Parsons, M.J. 1998. The Butterflies of Papua New Guinea; their systematics and biology. San Diego : Academic Press 736 pp. [334] (stated that the holotype was a male); Edwards, E.D., Newland, J. & Regan, L. 2001. Lepidoptera: Hesperioidea, Papilionoidea. In Wells, A. & Houston, W.W.K. Zoological Catalogue of Australia. Vol. 31.6. Melbourne : CSIRO Publishing, Australia. x 615 pp. (interpret Parson's (1998) reference to a holotype as a lectotype designation (Art. 74, ICZN 1985)).
Type locality: Aru Ils, Indonesia (Hewitson gave New Guinea in original description), see Toxopeus, L.J. 1944. Results of the Archbold Expedition to New Guinea, Lepidoptera Riodinidae (Erycinidae). Treubia Hors Série: 156–193 [181] (discussed the type locality and suggested that A.R. Wallace may have collected the type material on mainland New Guinea, on the Vogelkop or Onin Peninsulas of mainland Irian Jaya); Parsons, M.J. 1998. The Butterflies of Papua New Guinea; their systematics and biology. San Diego : Academic Press 736 pp. [334] (gave the label data of the specimen he referred to as a holotype as Aru Is.).
