Diagnosis

Differentiated from other bibionids by having the legs simple and the radial sector forked, with vein R2+3 short and extending obliquely to costa. Male genitalia complexly developed, providing excellent characters for differentiating species and for grouping into species-groups and complexes. Females with only 1 segment in cercus; the terminalia differing from those of Bibio and Dilophus by having the 8th sternum divided into 2 plates by a narrow cleft down midline.
