Introduction

The Brissidae are a cosmopolitan spatangoid family of at least 16 extant genera. Nine are recorded in Australian waters, represented by 21 species.

Brissids are distinguished in the order Spatangoida by the following combination of features: typically with both peripetalous and subanal fascioles, latter with anal branches in some, but lacking an internal fasciole.
