This short squat species is recorded across the top end from Broome in NW Western Australia to the gulf country of Northern Queensland. It was not placed in a species group by Fletcher (1985) although it shows affinity with S. patruelis (Stål) from which it can be separated by its generally smaller size and the structures of the male genitalia.
