- Brooker & Kleinig, Field Guide Eucalypts 1: 281 (1999) merged the broader leaved forms of E. oblonga with E. globoidea, but kept E. sparsifolia as a distinct species. A reputed hybrid E. globoidea x E. pauciflora subsp. pauciflora is the basis of E. callanii Blakely (Pryor & Johnson, 1971; Chippendale, 1988). Eucalyptus oblonga was recognised as a distinct species by Chippendale (1988) and included E. deformis, E. sparsifolia and E. oblonga var. rugulosa. A reputed hybrid with E. globoidea as one parent is the basis of E. globoidea var. largifructa Blakely (Pryor & Johnson, 1971; Chippendale, 1988). Jacobs & Pickard, Pl. New South Wales 161 (1981) recognised a 'Eucalyptus oblonga subsp. oblonga', but described no other subspecies, and none has been described since. Hybrids are known between E. radiata subsp. radiata and E. globoidea (Johnson & Hill, 1990). A reputed hybrid E. globoidea x E. pilularis is the basis of E. wardii (Pryor & Johnson, 1971; Chippendale, 1988).
