- The narrower generic concepts of U.Swenson et al ., Taxon 56: 329-354 (2007) and U.Swenson et al., Cladistics 23: 201-228 (2007) have been adopted for Australian Sapotaceae, with a number of species formerly placed in Pouteria now referred to Planchonella, Sersalisia and Vanroyena , except in the NT where a broad concept of Pouteria is retained for Pouteria arnhemica and P. sericea . Swenson et al . ( loc. cit .) also recognise Beccariella Pierre at generic rank, and include Pouteria brownlessiana, P. papyracea, P. pearsoniorum, P. queenslandica, P. richardii, P. singuliflora and P. xerocarpa in their concept of that taxon. However, Beccariella Pierre (1890) is an illegitimate later homonym of Beccariella Cesati (1879) (Fungi). A case for the conservation of Pierre’s name over that of Cesati has been submitted to Taxon (U.Swenson, pers. comm. 2008). Pending the outcome of this action, the above mentioned species are retained in Pouteria for the time being.
