The Australian Plant Name Index (APNI) is a tool for the botanical community that deals with plant names and their usage in the scientific literature, whether as a current name or synonym. APNI does not recommend any particular taxonomy or nomenclature. For a listing of currently accepted scientific names for the Australian vascular flora, please use the Australian Plant Census (APC) link above.
Showing Brachyscome pumila
Type: "crescit in Van Diemen's Land (v.s. sp.)"
APC Comment: A name of uncertain application, possibly referrable to Lagenophora stipitata (see J.Steetz, Pl. Preiss. 1: 428 (1845), G.Bentham, Fl. Austral. 3: 507 (1867) and G.L.R.Davis, Proc. Linn. Soc. New South Wales, ser. 2, 75: 124 (1950)).
Text: "Hooker (1856) [i.e. Hooker, J.D. Brachycome. In: The botany of the antarctic voyage of H.M. discovery ships Erebus and Terror, in the years 1839–1843. Part III. Flora Tasmaniae 1: 183–188. (Lovell Reeve: London) (1856)] saw no specimen but indicated that one was lodged at "Herb. Berlin". He also felt that it may be synonymous with Lagenophora billardierei [= L. stipitata (Labill.) Druce]. Davis (1950b, p. 128) [i.e. Davis, G.L. A revision of the Australian species of the genus Lagenophora Cass. Proceedings of the Linnean Society of New South Wales 75: 122–132 (1950)], in her revision of Lagenophora, recorded that "Bentham (1866), quoting Steetz (1845), listed Brachycome pumila in his synonymy of L. Billardièei, but, in view of the fact that in the original description Walpers (1843) stated "pappus shortly coronate", the present writer has omitted it from the synonymy, pending Walpers's specimen … being traced." Sonder (1853), in his Plantae Muellerianae [i.e. Linnaea 25: 450–530], cited B. pumila as a synonym of Lagenophora latifolia Hook.f., itself now treated as a synonym of L. stipitata (Labill.) Druce, as per Australian Plant Census (www.anbg.gov.au/chah/apc; accessed May 2014)."
