  • Etymology: "... the name of the Right Honorable Sir Michael Hicks-Beach, Bart., P.C., M.A., D.C.L., in appreciation of the encouragements afforded by him to Science during his tenor [sic] of office as Her Majesty's Secretary of State for the Colonies."
