APC Comment:
P.J.Garnock-Jones, New Zealand J. Bot. 25(1): 127 (1987) made the combination Melicytus angustifolius for this taxon while B.P.J.Molloy & D.J.Mabberley, Curtis' Bot. Mag. 17(4): 234 (2000) made the combination M. dentatus. Hymenanthera dentata and H. angustifolia were published simultaneously. G.Bentham, Fl. Austral. (1863), the first author to treat the two taxa as conspecific, chose the epithet “dentata” and placed H. angustifolia in synonymy (as a variety). Accordingly, M. dentatus has priority over M. angustifolius when these taxa are treated as a single species.
