Lectotype:
"At MEL there are two sheets, one bears two labels "Solanum eremophilum Ferd Mueller. Loamy places" and "Solanum eremophilum Ferd Mueller N. Holl. austr. interioris Ferd Mueller." The second sheet has a label including "Solanum eremophilum Ferd Mueller" then a brief description in Latin and two lines in German concluding "Flinders Ranges, Oct. '51". The material appears to be consistent with a single gathering. The latter is proposed as lectotype." (p. 183)

APC Comment:
Regarded as a probable Solanum petrophilum x S. esuirale hybrid by D.E.Symon, J. Adelaide Bot. Gard. 4: 184 (1981), but this view is refuted by A.R.Bean, Austral. Syst. Botany Soc. Newsl. 111: 6 (2002).
