Australian Plant Name Index (APNI)
The Australian Plant Name Index (APNI) is a tool for the botanical community that deals with plant names and their usage in the scientific literature, whether as a current name or synonym. APNI does not recommend any particular taxonomy or nomenclature. Etymology:"... the name of the Right Honorable Sir Michael Hicks-Beach, Bart., P.C., M.A., D.C.L., in appreciation of the encouragements afforded by him to Science during his tenor [sic] of office as Her Majesty's Secretary of State for the Colonies."
Etymology:"Named in honour of the Right Honourable Sir Michael Edward Hicks-Beach (1837-1916), British Colonial Secretary 1878-80, and later Chancellor of the Exchequer and First Earl of St Aldwyn."
