The Australian Plant Census (APC) is a list of the accepted scientific names for the Australian vascular flora, ferns, gymnosperms, hornworts and liverworts, both native and introduced, and includes synonyms and misapplications for these names. The APC covers all published scientific plant names used in an Australian context in the taxonomic literature, but excludes taxa known only from cultivation in Australia. The taxonomy and nomenclature adopted for the APC are endorsed by the Council of Heads of Australasian Herbaria (CHAH).

The spelling of the name Swainsona ferraudii Anon. has been misinterpreted by various authors as "ferrandii". The name first appears in Illustr. Garten-Zeit. 7: 161 (1863) as "Swainsonia Ferraudi", and the same spelling is used in the caption of pl. 11 where the taxon is illustrated. Subsequent authors appear to have misinterpreted the script used in the caption, where the letters "n" and "u" appear almost identical, thereby generating the orthographic variant "ferrandii". A.D.Chapman, Austral. Pl. Name Index 2787 (1991) also lists "Swainsona ferrandii Hort.", Illustr. Garten-Zeit. 7: 111 (1863) (as an orthographic variant for "Swainsona farraudii" (in itself a mis-spelling in notes by Chapman)), but this name does not appear on that page in the work cited. The names "Swainsona ferrandii Hort. ex Hubb. var. ferrandii" and "Swainsona ferrandii Hort. ex Hubb. f. ferrandiii" are listed by A.D.Chapman, Austral. Pl. Name Index 2787 (1991)), but these autonyms do not exist, in accordance with ICBN Art. 27.2 (Vienna Code) (2006). A.D.Chapman, Austral. Pl. Name Index 2788 (1991) also lists Swainsona galegifolia var. rosea F.T.Hubb. as "nom. inval. [sic] non L.Bailey (1902) nec Guilfoyle (1911)" and Swainsona galegifolia var. violacea F.T.Hubb. as "nom. illeg. non L.Bailey (1902)", but Hubbard's publication (Stand. Cycl. Hort. 6: 3283 (1917)) is here treated as being a secondary reference to Bailey's names. -
