The Australian Plant Census (APC) is a list of the accepted scientific names for the Australian vascular flora, ferns, gymnosperms, hornworts and liverworts, both native and introduced, and includes synonyms and misapplications for these names. The APC covers all published scientific plant names used in an Australian context in the taxonomic literature, but excludes taxa known only from cultivation in Australia. The taxonomy and nomenclature adopted for the APC are endorsed by the Council of Heads of Australasian Herbaria (CHAH).

R.O.Belcher, Austral. Syst. Bot. 7: 75-76 (1994) lists "Senecio rupicola (A.Rich.) DC." in synonymy of Senecio rupicola A. Rich. Although material cited by de Candolle (Prodr. 6: 372 (1838)) comprises more than one taxon, this is regarded here as a secondary reference rather than publication of a new name. Similarly, L.Rodway, Tasman. Fl. 93 (1903) lists "var. pleiocephalus" under his treatment of S. pectinatus. R.O.Belcher, Muelleria 9: 127 (1996) treated this as a new name, but it is here regarded as a secondary reference to Senecio pectinatus var. pleiocephalus Benth. Belcher's name, Senecio pinnatifolius var. pleiocephalus, is therefore invalid (lacking a Latin diagnosis: ICBN Art. 36.1 (2006)). -
