Type species:
Solen vagina Linnaeus, 1758 by subsequent designation (Children, 1823, Quarterly Journal of Science...: 83. Qualification: Schumacher, 1817, Essai d'un nouveau système des habitations des vers testacés: 124, is occasionally (e.g. by Moore) said to have designated Solen vagina as type species, but this designation does not satisfy Art. 67.5. Silex [Quoy & Gaimard, 1834, Voyage de la corvette l'Astrolabe..., Zoologie, 3: 731] is an incorrect subsequent spelling. The spelling "Solenia" [Oken, 1823, Isis: 458] is also listed in Neave, but Solen is the only spelling that appears in Oken's Isis.
