- Notodromadidae Kaufmann, A. 1900. Cypriden und Darwinuliden der Schweitz. Revue Suisse de Zoologie 8: 209-423.
Type genus:
Notodromas Lilljeborg, 1853.
Introduction
The family Notodromadidae comprises the subfamilies Notodromatinae, Cyproidinae, Centrocypridinae and Oncocypridinae. Only representatives of the first subfamily can be found in Australian freshwaters.
Diagnosis
Nauplii larvae with two distinctly separated eyes (also adults of Notordromadinae and Centrocypridinae). Rake-like organ with small pointed denticles. Third masticatory process of maxillula with 6 teeth. Male first thoracopod transformed into prehensile palps. Third thoracopod with three simple setae on terminal segment. Zenker organ long and slender, both extremities funnel-shaped: chitinous rods (spines) not arranged in separate rings.

Subfamily Notodromatinae Kaufmann, 1900
- Notodromatinae Kaufmann, A. 1900. Cypriden und Darwinuliden der Schweitz. Revue Suisse de Zoologie 8: 209-423.
Type genus:
Notodromas Lilljeborg, 1853.
Introduction
The subfamily comprises the genera Notodromas Lilljeborg, 1853; Newnhamia King, 1855 and Kennethia De Deckker, 1979. Only the first genus does not have representatives in Australia.
Diagnosis
Carapace stout, dorsally rounded, never elongate in lateral view; anterior and posterior margins broadly rounded. Ventral valve surface flattened, with longitudinal ridges, this structure enabling animals to cling upside-down to the surface of the water. Eye cups of both nauplii and adults separated, each with distinct convex lens. Left valve overlaps right one ventrally. Inner calcified lamella and fused zone both narrow, marginal pore canals straight. Antenna 5-segmented. Respiratory plate on first thoracopod absent. Terminal segment of third thoracopod small but distinct. Posterior seta of caudal ramus claw-like standing closely to posterior claw. Attachment of caudal ramus complex, with several proximal loops.

Diagnosis
Carapace with polygonal elevations. Spines sometimes present in posterodorsal area of shell; carapace triangular in shape when viewed from anterior, ventral area flat and ridged and surrounded on sides by broad lists. Broad and ribbed outer lamella on left valve in dorsal area. Two small eye tubercles in anterodorsal area of shell. Presence of many hairs on outside of shell.
