Introduction
Brazier (1877) is the only reference to this taxon (as Ziziphinus scobinatus) in the Australian fauna; he reported it from "Darnley Island, Torres Straits, 12 fathoms sandy bottom. However, this record is most likely a misidentification; there are no specimens in the Australian Musuem. Jansen (2000) comments that this taxon is "probably not Australian".
