Family AUTOGNETIDAE Grandjean, 1960

Introduction

The family Autognetidae includes nine genera and 30 species world-wide (Schatz et al. 2011). The catalogue of Subias (2011) shows that the family reaches its highest level of diversity in the Palaearctic and Nearctic Regions, with a few species in Asia, but has not been recorded in Africa. The single identified Australian species, Austrogneta multipilosa, occurs in moss and litter in sclerophyll forest, and has also been reported from New Zealand and Argentina (Colloff & Halliday 1998; Subias 2011). Unidentified species of Austrogenta have also been reported from Australia a number of times, and unidentified Autognetidae were also reported by Adolphson & Kinnear (2008) and Beyer et al. (2011).
