Subfamily Orbioninae Codreanu, 1967

Introduction

Orbionines are branchial parasites of Indo-West Pacific penaeoid shrimps.

 

Diagnosis

Female: Body oval, discoidal in appearance; segments mostly distinct, but head embedded in pereon; frontal lamina, coxal plates and lateral plates excessively developed and foliaceous; brood pouch almost completely closed; pleopods biramous; uropods reduced. Male: Head and pereomeres separate; pleon unsegmented, lacking appendages.
