Syntype(s) NHRM (coll.: October), Geraldton, Western Australia; SMTD (coll.: October), Geraldton, Western Australia
Comment: No year appears on the syntype data labels but the Mjöberg expedition during which Jacobi's (1928) material was collected ran from 1910 to 1913. Löcker (2020: 31) selected one specimen as a typical male and nominated it as holomorphotype acknowledging that such a term carries no nomenclatural status under the ICZN but the specimen serves as a reference for males of the species. The specimen is a male in AM (K570467) from Mt Chudalup,Western Australia (34°45’45”S, 116°04’54”E), coll: 28.xi.1998, B.J. Day & D.K. McAlpine.

Diagnosis

Long. 4 mm. (Jacobi 1928)

Male specimens of this species can be uniquely identified within Leades by having only one spine on the aedeagus, all other species having two spines. Furthermore, the spine is located dorsally, whereas all other Leades have their spines on the ventral side of the phallotheca. Diagnosis of females is more difficult, the best character to use for females being the position of the ScP+RA and RP fork in relation to the CuA1 and CuA2 fork. In L. rufinus the fork of ScP+RA and RP is distinctly basad of the CuA1 and CuA2 fork (by about twice the length of crossvein r-m1) (Löcker 2020).
