Genus Gelastopsis Kirkaldy, 1906

Compiler and date details

25 November 2010 - Murray J. Fletcher

Introduction

The genus Gelastopsis Kirkaldy was reviewed by Constant (2005) who recognised three species all of which are almost certainly associated with host plants of the genus Acacia. They show similarity in the structures of the male genitalia to species in the other Australian genera Navorillina Fennah and Dardus Stål which are also associated with plants of the genus Acacia. Constant (2005) hypothesises that the two-tone colouration of the face mimics the face of jumping spiders (family Salticidae).
