   Syntype(s) BPBM sex, quantity unknown (coll.: viii.1904), Kuranda, Queensland
  Comment: Knight (1983) invalidly referred to a female holotype and regarded the species as a nomen dubium. It is possible that a male syntype exists and this would be available for lectotype designation to establish the identity of the species. Knight also gave the type locality as Cairns while Kirkaldy gave it as Kuranda which was indicated on the label by the addition of a red "K" to a printed Cairns label.

Introduction

This species was regarded as a nomen dubium by Knight (1983) on the grounds that the "holotype" was female. However, no holotype was designated by Kirkaldy (1906) and it is possible that a male syntype may be available for lectotype designation. It is also possible that there is only one female syntype and Knight's (1983) recognition of it as "holotype" could be a lectotype designation by default, in which case the species would remain as a nomen dubium. It was described from Kuranda in the wet tropics of North Queensland.

All stages: phloem feeder.

 

Diagnosis

Very close to the last [B. sontiates Kirkaldy], but larger and the anterior margin of vertex (dorsally) wider and not so rounded; frons flatter. Lateral margins of pronotum more parallel. Length: 6 7/8 mm. (Kirkaldy 1906).
