B.D.Morley, Fl. Australia 2: 361 (2007) refers material from NSW and the ACT to both B. (Mahonia) aquifolium and B. (Mahonia) pinnata, but according to A.Whittemore (NA) (pers. comm. 2009) plants from these regions represent only B. aquifolium.
