Australian Plant Name Index (APNI)
The Australian Plant Name Index (APNI) is a tool for the botanical community that deals with plant names and their usage in the scientific literature, whether as a current name or synonym. APNI does not recommend any particular taxonomy or nomenclature. Etymology:"From the old genus name, Agrifolium, later made synonymous with Aquifolium and then included in Ilex, the holly. Refers to the holly-like leaves."
Etymology:"The specific name is derived from the Latin aeger (weak, ill) and folium (a leaf), in reference to the type collection having chewed, tatty leaves."
Etymology:A reference to the insect-damaged leaves of the type collection made by Cunningham on the north-west coast during surveys under King, 1818-22.
