Type: "Rudall River, ca 500 km south of Broome (122°12′E, 22°34′S), W.A.; P.G. WILSON no. 10587, 16.VIII.1971. – PERTH. Isotypen: CANB, K, M, PERTH."

Etymology: "Die Benennung des Taxons erfolgt zu Ehren des australischen Botanikers Paul G. WILSON, der die Pflanze auf einer seiner letzten Expeditionen entdeckt und als vermutlich noch unbeschriebene Ptilotus - Art erkannt hat. Mr. WILSON, B. Sc., der heute als bester Kenner der westaustralischen Flora gilt, war zunächst im State Herbarium of South Australia zu Adelaide tätig und hat jetzt seinen Arbeitsplatz im Western Australian Herbarium, Department of Agriculture, zu Perth. Für die Überlassung seiner Aufsammlung zur Bearbeitung und Auswertung sei ihm hiemit herzlich gedankt."
