The Australian Plant Name Index (APNI) is a tool for the botanical community that deals with plant names and their usage in the scientific literature, whether as a current name or synonym. APNI does not recommend any particular taxonomy or nomenclature. For a listing of currently accepted scientific names for the Australian vascular flora, please use the Australian Plant Census (APC) link above.
Showing Justicia carthagenensis
Type: (not cited).
APC Comment: The epithet represents the place of collection of the type, Carthagena [Cartagena] in Colombia, South America. The spelling of the epithet in the protologue was as 'carthaginensis'. Jacquin used this same epithet in the same publication for species in 12 other genera. In every other case he spelt the epithet as 'carthagenensis'. In a subsequent paper (N.J. von Jacquin, Select. 5 (1763)) he changed the spelling of the epithet in Justicia to 'carthagenensis' as well, and this spelling is adopted here.
APC Dist.: NT (naturalised)
