Pinus sabiniana Douglas ex D.Don , legitimate, scientific
Douglas, D. in Lambert, A.B. (1832), A Description of the Genus Pinus Edn. 3, 2: unnumbered page between 144 & 145, t. 80 [tax. nov.]
  • Etymology: "Mr Douglas has named the species in compliment to his early friend and patron Mr. Sabine, the late zealous Secretary of the Horticultural Society..."
  • Comment: The new name and description are clearly attributed to D.Douglas in the text and thus he is here considered to be the author of this name (ICN Art. 46.3, Melbourne Code, 2012). The spelling of the specific epithet is derived from the Latin "Sabinus" and is not to be altered to "sabineus" under ICN Art. 60.11 (Melbourne Code, 2012).
