Etymology: "The subspecific epithet refers to the prominent stipules. In the other subspecies (except subsp. angustifolia) the stipules are caducous, or if persistant then smaller than in subsp. stipulifera. Subspecies angustifolium has narrower phyllodes than all other subspecies of A. mutabilis."
